Sustainable Community Development Group, Inc. is
a not-for-profit corporation on the forefront of
working with the public, private, philanthropic
and community sectors to advance environmental
sustainability, equitable development and global
smart growth. Our concentration is achieving
quality of life with an emphasis on the
environment, health and shared prosperity. We
apply our efforts in the particular areas where
land use, community and economic development
meet environmental quality and public health.
Our special interest is meeting the needs of
underserved constituencies – communities of
color and low income communities. We provide
technical assistance that builds the capacity of
development and redevelopment stakeholders in
all sectors to engage on these issues and engage
in sustainable redevelopment. Some of our most
important work is technical assistance, training
and education that strengthens the capacity of
interdisciplinary stakeholders – local, state
and federal government, elected officials,
institutions and organizations, academicians,
corporations, foundations and other donors. We
help decision makers identify and assess
community needs, develop programming and
resources that address those needs and work with
communities in ways that recognize their
centrality to development and redevelopment of
disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Our company is
committed to building smart, livable, healthy
communities through a process of stakeholder
engagement that results in sustainable
development and wealth-building. SCDG serves as
an active resource and focal point for
foundations, public interest groups,
governmental agencies, companies in the private
sector and other redevelopment stakeholders
working to solve the environmental, social, and
economic problems created by environmental
contamination, sprawling patterns of development
and disinvestments in places around the nation.
We are a Washington, DC based not-for-profit
corporation organized under Internal Revenue
Service section 501c3. Our goal is education
and strategies that help develop leaders who
understand how public and private redevelopment
works and can be used to address health and
